Practice makes perfect, they say. I decided to attend the summer Latin school Schola Aestiva Posnaniensis this year and I’m working hard learning Latin. The idea of the school is to learn it by speaking . It’s not easy, however, when you have very little chances to speak Latin. So, I decided to write something. It’s nothing special and probably full of mistakes but… practice makes perfect. Here is the second part of a story set in Poland, in 20. century. You can find the first part here: Diēs calidus erat. Post paululum tempus cūstōs pūblicus domī advenit.
– Mihi nōmen est Iōannēs Covalskī. Cūstōs pūblicus et investigātor sum. Quī erant domī hodiē? Suntne omnēs hīc nunc? – inquit cūstōs pūblicus.
– Ita. Omnēs sumus. – respondit dominus Rūfus.
– Ergō. Dīc mihi dē omnibus persōnīs quī hīc sunt, domine Rūfus.
– Ecce uxor mea, Iūlia. – incipit dominus Rūfus. – Ecce Margarīta, Novāca, uxor dominī Robertī. Et ecce est coqua nostra, Rosa Mazur. Cēna nōbīs erat, quia diēs nātālīs uxōris meīs est.
– Ita… Esne sēcūrus nēmō vīllam intrāvit vel relinquit?
– Ita vērō.
– Et vōs omnēs id affirmātisne?
Silentium erat. Tantum Margarītā silentiōsē flebat.
– Bene. Id significat homicīda inter nōs esse. Ūnus vestrī Robertum interfēcit. Nunc sōlum dēbeō reperīre quī rem tam horribilem fēcit.
Nēmō nihil dīxit. Tantum alius aliī circumspiciēbat. Alius aliī suspicābātur.
