A sudden travel to a magic place

Written by Ioannes Oculus

I felt it with some kind of supernatural sense. This strange feeling surrounded me and when I closed my eyes some kind of gentle wind raised me and took me from my desk in my boring and colourless office. When after some very short time the wind stopped I opened my eyes and found myself standing in a place from my dreams.

First things that I saw were books. Lots and lots of them packed on shelves and in every corner of the place. There were shiny new ones and those which were read so many times that colours from the covers dimmed already. The place was not a library, where all books are put neatly one next to another like a soldier. There was not enough room for them, so they had to be packed wherever some free space could be found. But it wasn’t just random and accidental order. When one looked closer, some kind of method could be discovered. Again it wasn’t the way you find books in normal bookstores or libraries. Someone has put his or her favourite ones together, many of them were signed by authors. In one dark corner were dangerous ones, as some books are full of hatred. There was also a better place, with books that make you laugh. These were quite well organised as some were marked with a warning sign and a label: You will laugh even in public.

After some time more details about the place could be noticed. When I got used to the overwhelming number of books I saw that the place was a book shop. With little windows that let enough light inside to read, but not too much, so the place was like magic one. The room had to be really big, but all the bookcases, shelves and tables with books made only little place for somebody to get around. At the end of the room, I could see the entrance door. Big and wooden with heroes from stories that I read carved in them. The place brought to my mind Karl Konrad Koreaner’s shop, the one children read about in Never Ending Story.

I was so amazed by the place that I did not realise that someone was sitting in the far corner of the room. An old man was looking at me all the time and smiling. That how the story began.

Ioannes Oculus

I am addicted to languages, both modern and ancient. No language is dead as long as we can read and understand it. I want to share my linguistic passion with like minded people. I am also interested in history, astronomy, genealogy, books and probably many others. My goals now are to write a novel in Latin, a textbook for Latin learners, Uzbek-Polish, Polish-Uzbek dictionary, modern Uzbek grammar and textbook for learners. My dream is to have a big house in UK or USA where I could keep all my books and have enough time and money to achieve my goals.
